Minister Champions STEAM Education Innovation: Launches Maiden Panegyric Contest

In his efforts to foster creativity and innovation in Nigeria’s Education sector, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has officially launched the maiden edition of the Panegyric Competition. The event, held on recently, brought together participants and Students from various Secondary Schools across the nation to celebrate the intersection of arts and academics.

According to the Minister, Arts is integrated into the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) framework. He noted that this approach not only nurtures creativity but also transforms groundbreaking discoveries into practical, transformative innovations.

The Minister, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant, Dr. Ismaila Adiatu, noted that the competition will promote Nigeria’s cultural values, foster national unity, peace, creativity, eloquence, and healthy competition among Nigerian students.

He said “As we honour the art of praise, let us also celebrate the power of education in shaping the future of our nation.

“The Panegyric Competition is more than a contest,” the Minister stated. “It is a platform to inspire our young minds, demonstrate the power of words, and integrate arts into the core of our education system. Through initiatives like this, we aim to unlock the full potential of our Students and prepare them for a future where creativity and innovation are key drivers of development.” He added.

In her address, the Honourable Minister of State for Education Dr Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad Noted that The Panegyric Competition celebrates eloquence, rhetoric, and a shared vision of innovation, critical thinking, and inspired expression, aligning with the national vision for progress.

“It provides a platform for young voices to merge cultural appreciation with the power of ideas, fostering communication skills crucial in a rapidly advancing world, she stressed.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing Education policies that embrace STEAM learning.

He encouraged Schools, Teachers, and Parents to support initiatives that promote creativity and equip Students with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century.

Director Technology and Science Education Mrs Adenike Olodo said that The launch of the Panegyric Competition marks a significant step in the Ministry’s efforts to prioritize educational innovation and create a well-rounded learning environment for Nigerian Students.

The event featured series of inspiring performances where students showcased their eloquence, creativity, and understanding of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. The event highlighted the importance of celebrating artistic expression as a vital component of holistic education.

The maiden Panagyric featured a grand finale competition among three schools. Federal Government College Port Harcourt, Rivers State clinched the first position while Saint. Monica’s Girl’s Grammar School and Federal Government Secondary School (GSS) Gombe emerged 2nd and 3rd respectively. There was consolation prize of N50,000 each to other contestants.
