Minister Inaugurates Committee to Revise National Tourism Policy

Abuja, Nigeria – April 25, 2024 – Minister of Tourism, Lola Ade-John, has inaugurated a Committee on the Review of the National Tourism and Hospitality Policy and the Nigerian Tourism Development Master Plan. This landmark initiative signals the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s tourism sector and bolstering its industry.

The committee, comprising esteemed directors from various ministries, industry experts, and representatives from the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), embodies a collaborative effort aimed at crafting policies and master plans that will propel Nigeria to new heights as a premier tourist destination.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister Ade-John underscored the importance of harnessing collective wisdom, expertise, and creativity among stakeholders. She emphasized the committee’s role in aligning Nigeria’s tourism policies with current global trends and addressing emerging challenges, ultimately contributing to economic diversification in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The committee’s mandate includes the review of the existing National Tourism and Hospitality Policy, last updated in 2005, to ensure relevance in today’s dynamic landscape. Additionally, it will evaluate and update the Nigerian Tourism Development Master Plan to provide a strategic roadmap for sectoral growth and development.

Minister Ade-John highlighted tourism’s transformative potential, citing its ability to promote economic growth, sustainable development, cultural exchange, and social cohesion. She charged the committee with crafting comprehensive and sustainable policy frameworks to fully harness Nigeria’s tourism potential, tailored to the nation’s unique needs and aspirations.
