The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to internal security coordination and innovative governance. He said this when the President of the Nigeria Computer Society, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu and his delegation visited the Ministry in Abuja.
In his remarks, the Minister said the Ministry of Interior is a vital hub for internal security coordination and policy harmonization. Highlighting the Renewed Hope agenda, the Minister emphasized that governance under the administration of President Tinubu is not “business as usual” but rather “business unusual,” focused on creativity and transformational leadership. “It’s about not taking people to where they want to be, but to where they ought to be,” he stated.
The Minister reflected on his achievements in office, particularly in leveraging technology to enhance the nation’s security architecture and public service delivery.
He lauded the President’s courageous reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the exchange rate, which have stabilized the economy and created a predictable environment for long-term investment. He urged for patience and support for the President’s long-term vision for national development.
He also called on institutions such as the Nigerian Computer Society to play a more active role in supporting systemic transformation. “As a creation of law, you have a strategic responsibility in helping build a resilient public service architecture,” he noted.
According to the Minister, “Leadership is not about personal gain, but national survival. Sometimes, we must bury ourselves so that Nigeria can rise.”
The delegation from Nigeria Computer Society, led by its President, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, commended the Minister for his dedication to technological advancement. The Society recognized the Minister’s contributions to digital transformation in Nigeria, particularly the modernization of immigration, correctional, and security systems.
Dr. Aliyu also reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to supporting the Ministry through capacity building, advisory services, and collaborative projects. “The Nigerian Computer Society, with over 30,000 members spanning across academia, government, and industry, stands ready to partner with the Ministry to achieve its goals,” he stated.
This meeting sets a new standard for synergy between the government and professional associations, paving the way for transformative impacts on national development.
The delegation also briefed the Minister on the Society’s flagship programmes, particularly its annual international conference, which rotates across Nigerian geopolitical zones. Recent conferences have attracted over 1,500 attendees, with previous editions held in Rivers and Bauchi States.
Dr. Aliyu reaffirmed the Society’s commitment to supporting government efforts in the digital transformation of Nigeria through collaborative initiatives and policy input.
