The Ministry of Police Affairs has honoured three staff that have demonstrated a high level of productivity, integrity in service delivery, efficiency and dedication to scheduled duties and responsibilities, and overall performance across core civil service values as well as evidence of personal impact on citizens and the public.

The three awardees’ staff were Adams Danladi (Assistant Director, Procurement), Fanoiki Sunday (Chief Administrative Officer), and Akinola Yetunde (Clerical Officer) were given awards in categories A: Presidential Distinguished Public Service Career Award (PDPSCA), B: Presidential Merit Award, (PMA), C: (Head of Service Commendation Letter (HOSCL) respectfully during the Ministry’s 2022 Civil Service Commemoration and Ministerial Award at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Temitope Fashedemi whose address was read by the Director (General Services) Mrs. Edenmaya Ibilola Brayila said that for the vision and mission of the Ministry to be achieved, they need civil servants that would serve ethically with integrity, loyalty, impartially and civil servant that would put the interests of the public and public service ahead of their own personal interests.

In his words,” the civil service award ceremony was designed to celebrate the wealth of inspirational individuals and innovative projects across the civil service. It is intended for officers who have distinguished themselves in the public Service, demonstrated unusual patriotic commitment to civil service”.

He added that civil servants are administrators that ensure the implementation of policies of the governments and create ways for smooth functioning of programmes noting that, civil servants work tirelessly to enhance national progress and urged them to recommit to the cause of citizens.

The Permanent Secretary recalled that the Ministry of Police Affairs was reestablished on 21st August 2019 by President Muhammadu Buhari to give attention to retooling the police, remodels policing infrastructure, driving government community policing initiatives,s and promoting commitment to duty through enhanced welfare arrangement.

Earlier, in her paper presentation titled Overview of Performance Management System and Ethics in the Civil Service by the Executive Director, Institute for Ethics and Professional Studies, Dr. Mrs. Uyim Moses Akpabio stated that the understanding of the value and ethics of the civil service create a boundary for the conduct of civil servants and they should have an understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and contributions to the overall productivity of the Unit and department toward execution of the mandate of the Ministry.

She pointed out that Performance Management System is to help to develop the capacity of the employee to create and improve the effectiveness of the organization. Adding that police fall into the category of High-Risk public officials and it is recommended that mandatory training on professional ethics be carried out regularly in order to maintain standards.
