The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has taken a significant step towards boosting its operational efficiency with the receipt of cutting-edge ICT equipment from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project in Nigeria.

This donation is a testament to the Ministry’s commitment to harnessing technology to empower women and drive socio-economic development.

The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister (Mrs) Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, while receiving the equipment in her office in Abuja, stated that the ICT equipment will not only revolutionize productivity and data collection within the Ministry but also support its e-commerce portal for cluster women empowerment, which requires robust record-keeping, monitoring, and analysis.

Kennedy-Ohanenye expressed gratitude to ACReSAL for their invaluable contribution to women’s empowerment in Nigeria while also commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration’s efforts in ensuring the upliftment of the lives of women, children and the vulnerable in the country.

According to the Minister, this development is part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to promote women’s empowerment and socio-economic development. She informed that earlier initiatives include the distribution of empowerment machines to 15 states across Nigeria, as well as the launch of sustainable empowerment initiatives to enhance the economic status of women.

With this equipment on ground, Kennedy-Ohanenye said, the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs is poised to leverage technology in driving meaningful change and ensuring robust data collection, analysis, and monitoring in its efforts to empower women in the country.

The ACReSAL Project, a World Bank-assisted initiative, aims to address land degradation and climate change in Nigeria. The donated ICT equipment aligns with the Project’s Component C, which focuses on institutional support and project management, as highlighted by its National Project Coordinator, Mr. AbdulHamid Umar.
