FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has opened up about his key regrets as he marked six years in office, acknowledging unfulfilled ambitions despite notable achievements under his administration.
Speaking at an event organized by the A.A. Sule Gida Gida Group in Lafia, the governor noted his administration’s success in areas such as prompt salary payments, pension settlements, infrastructural upgrades, digital economy, and agricultural growth.
The Governor expressed deep disappointment over the stalled oil exploration activities in Obi Local Government Area.
“I had hoped to see the full phases of the oil exploration at Ebenyi in Obi — from drilling to investor engagement, and eventually establishing a modular refinery,” Governor Sule stated.
He lamented the suspension of the exploration project by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, which he said has hindered the state’s opportunity to benefit from the 13 percent derivation fund before 2027.
Despite expert confirmation of commercial oil deposits in Obi and Keana LGAs, activity at the site has remained dormant for nearly two years, with no clear updates from relevant authorities.
Governor Sule also expressed concern over the slow progress of another signature initiative — an electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant.
While he lauded the successful lithium production stage, he stressed that without continued investment in battery processing and vehicle assembly, the project could stall under future administrations.
He emphasized that all projects were financed within the state’s budget, with no borrowing involved.
Sule also mentioned delays in the planned Keffi flyover, attributing setbacks to technical challenges related to traffic control.
While expressing satisfaction with efforts in employment and industrialization, the governor maintained that some of his administration’s dreams remain incomplete, hoping his successor will build on the existing foundation.
In another development, the Nigerian Police has launched school Protection squad to protects school in Nasarawa state.
Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, while Speaking at the stakeholders’ forum on the security of schools in Nasarawa, Egbetokun described the initiative as proactive step to safeguard the rights of students and teachers to learn in a safe environment.
He stated that the initiative would serve as a rapid response to work with school communities, assess threats, respond to emergencies and build trust between students and law enforcement.
He added that the security of schools is synonymous with the security of future generations and “we must ensure they are protected from every possible threat,” he said.
The IGP added that the force will deploy modern technology and intelligence -led policing to ensure a consistent and proactive presence around school premises.
