FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – The Nasarawa State Government has donated three dialysis machines and the Infectious Diseases Diagnostic and Research Development Centre to the Federal University Teaching Hospital (FUTH) Lafia.
Speaking during the presentation to the management of the hospital on Thursday in Lafia, Dr Gaza Gwamna, Commissioner for Health, said the support was to strengthen the health facility for improved service delivery.
Gwamna reiterated the state government’s commitment to the continuous provision of funds and infrastructure to the hospital to better the healthcare needs of the citizens of the state and beyond.
He noted that the intervention was aimed at addressing challenges the patients faced due to the lack of some of the equipment because it was newly established.
The commissioner explained that sometimes patients with dialysis cases were meant to travel outside the state to access care at extra cost.
He pointed out that the state government would continue to support the teaching hospital to enhance its mandate of healthcare delivery, research and training of medical personnel among others.
Receiving the items, Dr Hassan Ikrama, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, described the intervention as a major boost to the hospital to redouble its efforts in providing health care to the people.
Dr Hassan Ikrama noted that the equipment, especially the dialysis machine, would go a long way to ease the hardship patients face in accessing care from neighbouring states.
“It is our desire and we will do everything possible to ensure that the teaching hospital Lafia is among the best teaching hospitals in the country.
“We will continue to train our staff in every department to get the best out of each of them for the benefit of our patients.
“We will also prioritize the welfare and well-being of our staff throughout various initiatives for optimal performance,” Ikrama added.
