FIC Report (Abia State) – The Director of National and Military Strategy at the National Defence College (NDC), Air Commodore Longonfa Immanuel Nansoh, has stated that the purpose of the College’s visit to Abia State is to conduct a National Study Tour aimed at deepening participants’ understanding of the socio-political environment of the State.
Commodore Nansoh explained that the National Defence College, established in 1992, was created to meet Nigeria’s growing need for strategic leadership in both civil and military spheres.
He said that at the end of the National Study Tour, participants are expected to present their findings, highlighting the peculiarities of Abia State based on first-hand information gathered during their visit.
“The report will make useful recommendations that will improve security in Abia State, while drawing lessons that could benefit Nigeria as a whole,” he noted.
Receiving the delegation in his office, the Secretary to the Abia State Government, Professor Kenneth Kalu, commended the team for choosing Abia as one of their study destinations and urged them to be objective and attentive in their assessment.
“I want to encourage you to pay attention and be objective in your study, because objectivity helps us to improve,” Prof. Kalu said. “We are in a hurry to do better. This government is determined to get things done right.”
He emphasized that the core purpose of government is to create a peaceful and conducive environment for every member of society — from business owners and students to women and vulnerable groups.
“We see that there is investment across every sector — we are building hospitals, schools, roads, and strengthening the business environment,” he said. “Governor Otti also understands the critical importance of security. Because if people don’t feel safe, development cannot thrive. That’s why he is equally investing in security.”
Prof. Kalu added that the administration of Dr. Alex Otti is a learning government that values constructive feedback and looks forward to the recommendations that will emerge from the study tour.
