FIC Report (Anambra State) – One hundred staff members of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State have completed a five-day intensive training on emerging technologies, digital skills, data analysis and cyber security.
The programme was organized by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and delivered through the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Abuja, under the Advanced Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI).
The training, held at the institution’s ICT Academy was formally declared open by the Rector, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, who was represented by the Deputy Rector (Administration), Dr. Kenneth Ezekwe.
Participants were introduced to digital literacy, emerging technologies, SPSS and Microsoft Power BI for data analysis, as well as cyber security practices.
Dr. Awuzie expressed delight that the polytechnic was selected for the ADEPTI programme, noting that the exposure would strengthen staff capacity and increase their competitiveness in an increasingly technology-driven academic environment.
She appreciated the NCC and DBI for the opportunity and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to continuous staff development to enhance both academic and administrative operations.
Speaking on behalf of DBI President/CEO, David Daser, Programme coordinator Mr. Calistus Oko commended the management of Federal Polytechnic Oko for seeking the implementation of ADEPTI in the institution.
He explained that the training was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of Internet governance, emerging technologies, data analysis, data visualization and the effective use of Microsoft Office tools which in turn aims to help staff transition from manual record-keeping and academic processes to digital and ICT-driven systems.
Oko praised the participants for their dedication and urged them to apply the knowledge gained to foster innovation and institutional growth.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, Deputy Rector (Academic), Dr. Nkiru Akabuike, thanked the NCC and DBI for extending the training to the polytechnic. She assured that staff would put the acquired skills to effective use.
She also commended the Rector for her commitment to attracting impactful programmes to the institution and encouraged staff to support her administration.
Other participants, including Dr. Ijeoma Okechukwu, Mr. Love Iruoma and Mrs. Jennifer Nkiru Dike, praised the trainers for their professionalism and called for more similar capacity development initiatives.
The institution’s ICT Director, Dr. Amobi Chiamogu, assured attendees that training manuals and certificates would be distributed once available.
