NDDC Assures Timely Completion Of 21-KM Imo–Abia–Rivers Road

FIC Report (Imo State) – The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the timely completion of the Kilometers Ehime–Nguru–Aba Branch–Mpam–Umuokirika–Ekwereazu Road linking Imo, Abia and Rivers States.

The Managing Director of the Commission, Dr Samuel Ogbuku, gave the assurance during an inspection visit to the project site in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work currently ongoing.

Dr Ogbuku noted that the strategic inter-state road would significantly boost connectivity, enhance trade, facilitate agricultural activities, and stimulate socio-economic development across the benefiting communities while giving his assurance that the second phase of the project would soon be awarded to ensure speedy completion.

The road corridor traverses Ehime Mbano, Ahiazu Mbaise, Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise, and Ngor Okpala Local Government Areas in Imo State, while extending into Abia and Rivers States, serving as a vital economic and social lifeline for thousands of residents.

According to the Managing Director, the project aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises Infrastructural development as a catalyst for economic growth and improved quality of life for citizens.

In his speech, the traditional ruler of Ihitteaforukwu Kingdom, Eze Dr O. Nwandu, who spoke on behalf of the host communities, commended the intervention of NDDC and described the road rehabilitation as long overdue noting that it had been impassable for over 15 years.

The monarch further stated that the road is critical to the economic survival of the communities it traverses adding that Its completion will ease transportation, enhance agricultural productivity, improve access to markets, and restore hope to the people.

He further stated that residents and community leaders are delighted with the project pledging continued cooperation with NDDC to ensure smooth execution and timely delivery of the project.
