Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has urged the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to reassess and revitalize its humanitarian efforts and policies to effectively address the pressing needs of the state, which has been severely impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency and a recent flood disaster.
The governor emphasized the importance of collaboration between the NEDC and the state government to ensure a coordinated response to the crisis.
During a sympathy visit to the Government House in Maiduguri, the NEDC donated a substantial sum of N30billion and a large quantity of food items to support the victims of the flood disaster and small business owners affected by the crisis.
The donation includes: 20,000 bags of 50kg rice, 20,000 cartons of spaghetti, 10,000 jerry cans of vegetable oil, N3 billion for distressed small businesses and entrepreneurs and support for reconstruction, repairs, and environmental issues.
The NEDC’s Chairman, General Paul Tafa, commended Governor Zulum for his exemplary leadership and resilience in governing the state despite the numerous challenges.
He also expressed his condolences to the people and government of Borno State, praying for an end to the calamities and comforting the governor and victims by considering the incident as a destiny and act of God.
The MD/CEO of NEDC, Amb. Mohammed Goni Alkali, announced the donation and emphasized the commission’s commitment to supporting the affected communities.
Earlier, the NEDC delegation visited the Shehu of Borno palace, where they announced a donation of N50 million for the renovation of the palace and relief materials to cushion the sufferings and hardships.
