In pursuit of a globally competitive and citizen-focused Federal Civil Service, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has urged newly promoted Directors to consolidate ongoing reforms and ensure the delivery of tangible, measurable results across the Service.
Speaking at a Recognition Dinner held in Abuja to honour tolhe Directors, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation described their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, stressing that Directors occupy a strategic role in bridging policy formulation and implementation.
She urged them to uphold the gains of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25), deepen digitalisation efforts, and ensure improved service delivery to Nigerians.
Referencing the maiden edition of the Recognition Dinner held last year, she noted that the initiative reinforces a culture of excellence and leadership within the Service.
Mrs. Walson-Jack also highlighted ongoing policy initiatives, including the Rotational and Understudy Policies, aimed at strengthening leadership capacity and ensuring continuity.
Congratulating the 338 newly promoted Directors, she called on them to lead with purpose, build strong teams, and remain accountable in the discharge of their duties.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, expressed deep appreciation to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, for her leadership in championing this important initiative. He also congratulated the Directors for successfully navigating the transition to the computer-based test (CBT) promotion system, which recorded near 100% success and demonstrated a new benchmark in transparency, efficiency, and credibility in public service examinations.
Prof. Olaopa commended the discipline and professionalism exhibited during the 2025 Directorate Level Promotion Exercise, noting that the CBT approach significantly reduced costs, improved accuracy, and accelerated result processing.
The Permanent Secretary, Service Welfare Office-OHCSF, Dr. Usman Garba, in his opening remarks, emphasized that the responsibility of leadership in the public service is a call to duty that demands not only technical competence but also strategic planning and ethical leadership.
He noted that the recognition ceremony serves as a platform to congratulate the newly appointed directors on their elevation and to formally welcome them into the top leadership cadre of the Civil Service.
The evening was marked by warm camaraderie, as guests celebrated excellence and reaffirmed their commitment to public service.
