FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has called for a renewed commitment to end insecurity in Nigeria as the country marks 65 years of independence. He emphasised that insecurity is a major setback to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development, stressing the need for collective efforts to tackle the issue.

The Governor, made the call in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Abubakar Bawa, and made available to journalists in Sokoto on Wednesday, 1st October, 2025.

The Governor, highlighted measures taken by his administration to curb insecurity in Sokoto state, including procurement and distribution of over 180 patrol vehicles to security agencies to enhance their mobility and response to security threats, establishment of Sokoto state community guard corps which was supported with 40 hilux vans and 700 motorcycles to bolster community security, operationalization of Air force Base, upward review of monthly allowances for security personnel deployed to volatile areas to boost their morale and effectiveness, upgrading DSST tracking device from 4G to 5G to improve surveillance and tracking capabilities and the construction of a new military base in Illela Local Government Area to enhance security presence.

The Governor also emphasised the need to eliminate the “informant syndrome” within rural communities which contributes to many abductions in the state. He urged Nigerians on the need to emulate the virtues, patriotism, and honesty of the nation’s founding fathers who sacrificed greatly for self-rule.
