The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, extends warm felicitations to His Excellency Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad of Burkina Faso, as well as to the Government and the brotherly people of Burkina Faso, on the momentous occasion of the country’s Independence Anniversary.
Nigeria recognizes this historic anniversary as a profound symbol of the Burkinabè people’s enduring resilience, commitment to sovereignty, and pursuit of national development. As Burkina Faso commemorates this remarkable milestone, Nigeria joins in honouring the country’s steadfast progress and shared aspiration for peace, stability, and prosperity.
Despite Burkina Faso’s recent departure from ECOWAS, Nigeria holds in the highest esteem the longstanding bonds of fraternity, solidarity, and cooperation that have defined relations between both nations for decades. Our bilateral engagement continues to be rooted in mutual respect, African unity, and the common historical, cultural, and socio-economic ties that bind our peoples.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso maintain strong diplomatic relations anchored on political cooperation, regional security collaboration, trade, and people-to-people exchanges. Both countries continue to engage constructively on matters of shared concern, including counter-terrorism, economic integration, and sustainable development. Nigeria values these enduring connections and remains firmly committed to broadening avenues of partnership for the benefit of both nations.
Nigeria is also confident that the current impasse regarding the detention of Nigerian Military Aircraft in Bobo-Dioulasso will be resolved amicably in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect.
On this auspicious anniversary, Nigeria reaffirms its unwavering commitment to deepening diplomatic relations with Burkina Faso, strengthening dialogue, and fostering practical cooperation across multiple sectors. Nigeria also conveys its sincere goodwill to the Government and people of Burkina Faso, expressing hope for continued peace, social harmony, and greater economic advancement in the years ahead.
