ABUJA – (Federal Ministry of Science & Technology Report) – The Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu (Dr) has revealed that Nigeria is embarking on a silent revolution in Science, Technology and Innovation by harnessing the intellectual talents of Nigerians in helping to solve the challenges faced by the nation.
He said this when he received an Award for being the Most Performing Minister in 2018 from The Authority Newspaper in his office on Tuesday 26th of March 2019 in Abuja. The Minister also affirmed that the Ministry is collaborating with the private sector to develop a Science and Technology Museum to give coming generations insight into what their forebears are doing and to motivate them to do more.
While appreciating the management, board and staff of “The Authority Newspaper” for the Award, he pointed out that the newspaper is a trailblazer in the reportage of Science, Technology and Innovation in Nigeria. He charged ‘The Authority Newspaper’ to throw more light on Science, Technology and Innovation in Nigeria and show more of the research work carried out by the Ministry and its agencies.
Ogbonnaya Onu stated that everyone in the country has to be fully involved with the task of building a knowledge-based economy, urging the media to be involved in disseminating Science, Technology and Innovation to the populace. He called on other media organisations to give premium to Science and Technology, because no country has become truly great without Science, Technology and Innovation. He further described the problems of the country as more complex than before, saying every sector of the society has to contribute to the solution.
Speaking earlier, the Managing Director of ‘The Authority Newspaper’, Madu Onuorah in his speech applauded the outstanding intellect of the Minister, highlighting his key achievements to include: the Executive Order 005 and the high density biscuit already in the market.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Bako Nabasu noted that the Minister deserves the Award and appreciated the newspaper for the recognition, indicating that it would spur the Ministry to strive to perform more.
