FIC Report (Edo State) – In a bid to enhance road safety and legal compliance, the Nigerian Police Zone 5 has announced the commencement of the enforcement of the Vehicle Tinted Glass Permit regulation across Edo and Delta States, effective from October 2, 2025. This initiative underscores the Police’s commitment to upholding existing laws while fostering a safer driving environment.
In a Statement issued by SP Tijani Momoh, the Police Public Relations Officer of Zone 5 Headquarters in Benin City, the enforcement aligns with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, and will be systematically implemented across both states. The regulation applies equally to all vehicles fitted with tinted glasses, whether factory-installed or added aftermarket.
Motorists are urged to register their vehicles for the tint permit via the official portal, www.possap.gov.ng, and complete physical verification at their respective State Command Headquarters. Those who prefer not to obtain the permit are advised to remove or replace tinted glasses with transparent alternatives, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act of 2004.
In addition to Tint regulation, the Police will strictly enforce prohibitions against the unlawful use of sirens, revolving lights, Police SPY devices, unregistered vehicles, and unallocated official number plates. These measures are part of a broader effort to curb impersonation and enhance road safety.
The enforcement exercise will be conducted professionally to prevent harassment or extortion. The Police leadership assures the Public that any Officer found violating these principles will face sanctions, and supervisory Officers will be held accountable for misconduct. Overall, the initiative reflects the Police’s dedication to law enforcement while respecting motorists’ rights and ensuring a secure environment on Nigerian roads.
