The Federal Government has called for peaceful co-existence among citizens, as Nigeria’s prosperity depends on unity among her people.
The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, stated this when he received in his office, the Arewa People’s Unity Association (APUA) led by its chairman, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu.
He emphasized that Nigeria could only harness the potentials of its citizens in an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, and commended the group for standing for peace and unity, the fulcrum on which national development rests.
Gen. Dambazau maintained that the Ministry could not achieve its objective of securing the country without the support and partnership of the society, and noted that peace and security go together, as without one, the other could not be guaranteed.
The Minister said that though the country was immersed in socio-economic challenges, on the flip side would be found huge potentials, which could be effectively channeled through peaceful and harmonious co-existence.
Earlier, the secretary of the association, Ibrahim Adagi, said the association’s visit was to brief the Minister of Interior on their activities and suggestions on how to decongest prisons and bring sanity to the administration of criminal justice in the country.
The Arewa People’s Unity Association (APUA) was formed, among others, to promote harmonious relationship between the people of the North and other parts of the country.
