NMDC And NSUK Collaborate To Boost Research And Development

Tuesday, 22nd July, 2025 will go down in the annals of history between National Metallurgical Development Centre (NMDC) Jos and Nasarawa State University (NSUK) Keffi, as the duo signed a bond that is capable of transforming the fortunes of the two institutions.

Speaking during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between NMDC, Jos and NSUK, Keffi, at the university’s Liaison office, Asokoro, Abuja, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Sa’adatu Liman Hassan who is a Professor of Islamic Studies gave the background behind the university’s interest to collaborate with NMDC.

According to her the university’s interest to collaborate with NMDC was not unconnected to the visit of some of the departments of the university to the Centre and the reports of the departments as regards the expertise and state of the arts equipment in Engineering, Technology and Research and Development domiciled in NMDC, Jos.

She went further to say that the university’s interest to partner with NMDC was also borne out of versed information she gathered on the indispensable roles NMDC plays in the areas of man power development in Engineering, Technology and value addition to all minerals and Metals in the country and beyond.

She promised to strategically place the Logo of NMDC at a conspicuous position at the university’s main campus as a sign of commitment and upholding the collaboration between the two institutions.

The Vice Chancellor thanked the DG/CE, NMDC for accepting to collaborate with the university, stating that NSUK as a university own by a state acclaimed as the most blessed state in terms of mineral deposits, promised to harness the potentials in NMDC to transform the relevant departments in the university thereby assisting the state to utilize the value of her rich mineral resources.

In his response, the Director General/Chief Executive, National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos, Engr Prof Linus Asuquo expressed his delight to have a collaboration with a gateway university that has all it takes to revolutionize not only the economy of Nasarawa State but the nation at large.

The DG/CE reminded the VC, that owing to his passion for university education and revamping the Nigerian economy through research and development, he accepts all university students on Industrial Training and those on educational visits at the Centre.

He reminded the VC that most government institutions and agencies are so familiar with signing of MOUs/MOAs without much regard to their implementations.

He assured the VC that NMDC as the only Agency of the Federal Government charged with the mandate of adding value to all Minerals and Metals in the country has the capacity to add inclusive value to the research and development mandate of the university.

Prof Asuquo stressed the need for NMDC and NSUK to collaboratively explore numerous research opportunities available through TEDFUND and other International Research -Oriented Institutions/ Organizations so as to contribute their immeasurable quota to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

The DG reminded the Vice Chancellor that, no government institution/ agency can successfully achieve its mandate without one form of collaboration or the other.

He reassured the VC that NMDC is poised to work assiduously to keep to the tenets of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed for symbiotic dividend.
