FIC Report (Kwara State) – The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called for constructive dialogue and peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging stakeholders to embrace issue-based discourse over rancour.
Speaking at a town hall meeting held in Ilorin on Thursday, the Director-General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, who was represented by the Kwara State Director, Alhaji Dare Rotimi Abdulganiyu, emphasized the need for unity. He stressed that elections should serve as a platform for national development rather than division.
In his remarks, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kwara State, Hale Gabriel Longpet, highlighted the benefits of politics without bitterness. He urged political parties to properly educate their supporters, adopt a progressive mindset, and shun violence, noting that peaceful elections help strengthen democratic institutions.
Also speaking, the Kwara State Commissioner for Youth Development, Shehu Ndanusa Usman, underscored the importance of youth participation in promoting peaceful coexistence. He described voter education as a critical tool for ensuring credible elections and called on citizens, particularly young people, to be informed and responsible in the discharge of their civic duties.
Participants at the meeting also emphasized the role of the media in shaping public perception. They urged journalists and media organizations to remain objective and avoid biased reporting, noting that balanced and accurate information dissemination is key to fostering public trust, reducing tension, and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
If you want, I can also tighten it into a broadcast script or headline + lead format for newspaper publication.
