Northern Governors Forum To Tackle Insecurity In The Region

    FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – The North Central Governors forum have taken a common ground to tackle the security challenges’ bedeviling the sub region.

    Chairman North Central Governors forum and Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the forum meeting which was held recently at Nasarawa State Governors lodge Asokoro Abuja.

    The Chairman of the forum explained that the meeting is continuation of its regular regional meeting of the North Central to discuss so many key areas of common interest especially in areas of security, economic development, Mining and agriculture, also pointed out that, recently, NCDC was signed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which as a region, they needed to discuss and ensure that those kind of things work out.

    In the area of security, the Chairman of the forum said, recently, there have been some attacks in Plateau, Benue and Kwara and as governors of the North Central, they cannot fold our arms, stressing that, what affects one of them, affects all of them. “Because of that, we have to come together to compare notes, to open communication and see where do we can go from here to see that we continue to have more of these meetings so that we can protect the people of our states and region”.

    He recalled that, after the President signed into law the NCDC, a meeting was held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel where all members of the national assembly from the region were invited and they agreed to compare notes to identify areas of common interest especially in the zone most especially in the area of. agriculture and mining, these are areas that are very key to this zone and these are areas that this zone has done a lot, areas of development also that would create opportunities.

    “There are lots of prospects for investment in the region and must continue to prioritise that” This is a region that is always supporting the entire nation especially in the area of agriculture.

    Other issues of interest discussed at the meeting, according Governor Sule is on how to improve and stimulate the economy of the sub region as well as to identify area of interest in respect to North central development Commission.

    The Chairman of the forum noted that as Governors of the sub region, they must speak with one voice as shares common interest in the region and what affects one of them affects all.
