In a bid to equipped caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high quality care for older persons, the National Senior Citizens Centre, (NSCC), has congratulated the first ever trainees on Quality Assessors in Geriatric Social Care Skills in Nigeria.
The Director General, National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Dr. Emem Omokaro, made this known during the closing ceremony for trainees of Quality Assessors in Geriatric Social Care Skills Sector.
While commending the participants for their dedication and commitment to achieving the Quality Assurance Certification, Omakaro, added that the importance of training the caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge is to provide high-quality care to older persons across the country.
She highlighted that the certification program is a crucial step in providing caregiving and ensuring that the needs of the elderly are met with competence and compassion.
“The completion of this training marks a new chapter in our efforts to raise the standard of care for our senior citizens. These caregivers are now trained to deliver services that meet the highest quality standards, ensuring the well-being and dignity of our older population,” DG added.
As NSCC continues to roll out its Quality Assurance Certification program, the DG reiterates the center’s commitment to expanding the training to reach more caregivers nationwide.
She urged the newly certified caregivers to uphold the principles of excellence and compassion in their work, as they play a critical role in the lives of older persons.
On his part, the Director of Vocation and Technology, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Engr Yusuf Suleiman, stated that there is need to recognize the importance of technical and vocational education in empowering individuals with the skills needed to meet societal needs.
“This caregiver certification program aligns perfectly with our mission to enhance vocational training across various sectors, including the critical area of elder care”. He said.
Engr. Suleiman further stated that the pioneering caregivers who have undergone this rigorous training are now well-equipped to provide not just care, but also comfort, dignity, and respect to our senior citizens. Their work will undoubtedly have a profound impact on the lives of older persons and their families.
“We at NBTE are proud to support initiatives like this that contribute to the professionalization of caregiving and the overall improvement of technical education in Nigeria”. He Emphasized.
