FIC Report (Abia State) – The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of no fewer than 620 personnel across the state as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration in 2026.
The State Commandant, CC Chukwuemeka N. Odimba, KSM, JP, made this known while outlining the Command’s comprehensive security arrangements ahead of the festive period. He explained that detailed operational directives have already been issued to Area Commanders and Divisional Officers in all Local Government Areas of the state.
According to him, the deployment strategy places strong emphasis on the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, as well as the safeguarding of lives and property before, during, and after the celebrations. He added that officers have been strategically positioned in key locations to deter criminal activities and ensure a visible security presence across Abia.
Commandant Odimba further revealed that specialized units of the Corps, including the Rapid Response Squad, Tactical Team, and the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), have been fully mobilized. These units are expected to carry out intensive patrols in recreational centres, places of worship, major public spaces, and other identified vulnerable points and flashpoints across the state.
He noted that the proactive deployment is aimed at preventing any form of security breach and ensuring that residents can celebrate in a peaceful atmosphere without fear or disruption. He stressed that the NSCDC remains committed to professionalism, discipline, and civility in the discharge of its duties.
The Commandant also called on residents of the state to cooperate with security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activities or movements within their communities. He emphasized that public support is crucial to achieving a secure environment during the festive period.
In his words, “I urge members of the public to promptly report any suspicious movement of persons or items to the nearest security agency. Security is a collective responsibility, and timely information can help prevent potential threats.”
He further encouraged Muslim faithful to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to pray for peace, unity, and continued progress in Abia State and Nigeria as a whole. He also extended his warm wishes to the Muslim community, hoping that the celebration would be marked by joy, reflection, and harmony.
“I wish all Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyful, and blessed Eid-el-Fitr celebration,” he added.
