FIC Report (Abia State) – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have renewed their commitment to combat the menace of illicit drug abuse and trafficking in Abia State.
This move comes as part of an intensified joint effort to combat the growing concern of drug-related crimes in the region.
On Tuesday, 13th January 2026, the newly appointed Commander of the NDLEA in Abia State, Chigbu Odoemelam Chike, paid a courtesy visit to the Commandant of the NSCDC, Abia State Command, Commandant Akinsola Aderemi, at the NSCDC Command Headquarters in Umuahia.
The meeting, which was both cordial and constructive, served as a platform for familiarising the NDLEA commander with the operational dynamics of the NSCDC and discussing ways to enhance collaboration between the two agencies.
During the meeting, the leaders expressed a shared determination to address the rising tide of illicit drug use and trafficking that has been contributing to crime and insecurity in the state.
Commandant Aderemi emphasized the NSCDC’s role in safeguarding public order and protecting citizens, noting that the agency’s proactive strategies would continue to align with efforts from the NDLEA to tackle this growing issue head-on.
Both commanders acknowledged the critical role that effective collaboration between law enforcement agencies plays in reducing criminal activities.
However,r They discussed various approaches and tactics to enhance the synergy between their teams, focusing particularly on information sharing, joint operations, and community engagement to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
“The fight against illicit drug abuse is not one that can be won by a single agency,” said Commander Chike. “It is crucial for us to join forces, exchange intelligence, and work together to dismantle the networks responsible for trafficking these dangerous substances into our communities.
Then,by collaborating with the NSCDC, we hope to ensure the safety and well-being of the people of Abia State.”The officials also spoke on the importance of capacity building for their personnel to equip them with the necessary tools and skills to effectively combat drug-related crimes.
They reaffirmed their commitment to the long-term goal of eradicating drug abuse from the state by addressing both supply and demand through law enforcement and public education campaigns
.
As the state continues to grapple with the challenges posed by drug abuse, both agencies remain resolute in their efforts to make Abia State safer and healthier for all residents.
This partnership marks a crucial step toward ensuring that the joint security apparatus is fully prepared to confront and defeat the criminal forces that threaten public safety.
