After months of probing and lobbying, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has secured presidential pardon for former Governor of Bendel State, late Prof. Ambrose Alli.
It was revealed in a statement signed by Mr Crusoe Osagie, media aide to Governor Obaseki, that the Presidential pardon was announced by Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola during a briefing on Thursday, April 9, 2020.
Prof. Ali governed Bendel State from 1979 to 1983. After the Military took over in 1983, he was prosecuted and sentenced to 100 years in prison by a military tribunal and later released on bail.
Governor Obaseki, who has maintained that his policies and programmes mirror those of Prof. Alli, had earlier said he was working actively to get the President to exercise his Prerogative of Mercy in pardoning Prof. Alli.
Others granted pardon are: Chief Anthony Enahoro; ex- Lt. Colonel Moses Effiong; Major E.J. Olarenwaju and Ajayi Olusola Babalola.
