FIC Report (Edo State) – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with the Nigerian Army to stamp out kidnapping and other criminal activities threatening peace in the state.
The governor spoke while hosting the Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Nansak Danjuma Shagaya, and a delegation of senior officers during a courtesy visit at Government House in Benin City.
Okpebholo said the growing partnership between the Edo State Government and security agencies, particularly the Army, is already delivering visible results. He commended the efforts of the Army’s 4 Brigade, noting that their sustained operations in forests and remote areas have significantly disrupted criminal networks.
According to the governor, the dedication and endurance displayed by soldiers in challenging terrains demonstrate their unwavering resolve to restore security across Edo communities. He added that residents in previously affected areas are beginning to experience renewed peace and confidence as a result of intensified military operations.
Reaffirming his administration’s support, Okpebholo pledged continued assistance to strengthen Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) established in strategic locations to boost rapid response capacity and surveillance. He also requested that his appreciation be conveyed to the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership and commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
On the issue of flooding at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport in Isihor, the governor explained that while immediate large-scale intervention may be constrained by the rainy season and procurement processes, the state government would carefully assess the situation. He referenced previous successful intervention at Ekenwan Barracks as evidence of the government’s readiness to address similar challenges.
In his response, Major General Shagaya thanked the governor for his consistent collaboration and support, assuring that the Corps would continue to partner with the state in advancing peace, unity, and stability.
The Army commander also appealed for government assistance in tackling persistent flooding affecting the school and surrounding communities in the Isibor and Ugbowo axis. Beyond security operations, he proposed expanded cooperation in areas including capacity building, youth engagement, driver refresher training, catering services, and firefighting support.
The renewed alliance underscores Edo State Government’s broader security strategy focused on curbing kidnapping, reinforcing civil-military cooperation, and enhancing public safety across the state.
