FIC Report (Lagos State) – The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, has reiterated the need for Nigerian broadcasters to continually uphold the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Omotoso emphasized that a vibrant and responsible broadcast industry is essential to Nigeria’s progress, noting that Lagos State looks forward to fostering a stronger partnership with the broadcasting community to further project the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Lagos State Government.
He made this known on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB), Lagos State Chapter, to the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
“The reputation of your members precedes them. Therefore, I implore you to make your society stand out and make an impact. On our part as a Government, we will see how we can strengthen the society to make the relationship robust and fruitful,” Omotoso said.
Earlier, the Chairman of SNB Lagos, Mr. Ayo Makinde, who led the delegation alongside the Secretary, Aminat Elegushi, and Treasurer, Funke Durodola, explained that the Lagos Chapter was inaugurated in June 2024 with the primary objective of promoting professionalism, excellence, and innovation in broadcasting.
Makinde clarified that the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters is distinct from the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), which serves as the industry’s regulatory body. He expressed the Chapter’s desire to collaborate with the Ministry and seek an audience with the Governor to further amplify the government’s voice and engage the public effectively.
The Director of Public Affairs in the Ministry, Mr. Adesegun Ogundeji, underscored the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between the Ministry and the SNB. He expressed optimism about the potential benefits of such collaboration, including enhanced industry standards, improved content quality, and broader access to information for Lagosians and Nigerians at large.
Other senior management staff of the Ministry present during the visit included:
- Mr. Tayo Ogunbiyi, Director of Public Enlightenment and Community Relations
- Mr. Kayode Oyekanmi, Director of Strategy Centre
- Dr. Jide Atansuyi, Director of Social Media
- Mrs. Ramat Oriola-Seriki, Director of Administration and Human Resources
