The activities of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development under the leadership of the Honourable Minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, and the Agencies of the Ministry have been commended by Reverend Father Joseph Obada, of the Holy Trinity Church Maitama, Abuja.
Rev. Obada who was the officiating Minister during the church service gave the commendation while speaking with members of the Ministry who attended the Thanksgiving Service to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Ministry.
He said he was impressed with what the ministry have achieved within one year of existence.
“I have heard a lot about the activities of the Ministry and its agencies like NEMA, NAPTIP and so on, and it is quiet commendable, it shows that the Ministry is actually working.
“This should not be seen as just government work, but another way of doing corporal works of Mercy, responding to God’s words to be the salt and light of the world”.
Rev. Obada enjoined everyone working in the Ministry and providing Humanitarian Services to see it also as a spiritual exercise.
He said as the Ministry continues to discharge it’s duties in the right and prudent way, God will reward everybody involved.
The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq, speaking through her representative, the Director of Disaster Management, Dr. Dorothy Nwodo, said the Ministry was established on 21st August 2019, by Mr. President and one of the objectives is to rejig the National Social Investment Programme, improve on the processes and methodologies to make more impact on the citizens. This would be used as one of the platforms to achieve the vision of Mr President to bring out 100 million citizens out of poverty in the next 10 years.
The Minister said a reasonable achievements have been recorded in the past one year but a lot need to be done. With the cooperation and support of partners and other critical stakeholders, more would be achieved.
The Minister said one of the challenges facing the Ministry is paucity of funds.
“There is great work to be done but funding is a challenge. I call for increased budgetary allocation for the Ministry and support from local and international partners”.
The Thanksgiving service was to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Ministry, to appreciate God for the success recorded and request for God’s guidance and support to make more impact on the poor and vulnerable in the society.
