FIC Report (Anambra State) – Some residents in Onitsha metropolis have commended the Federal Government for coming to their rescue by constructing the second Niger Bridge and rehabilitation of Onitsha – Owerri road, the commendation took place during an interview With an officer from Federal Information Resource Centre Awka.
According to Mr. Jeremiah Allen, a resident of Onitsha, before the construction of the second Niger Bridge, they have been experiencing traffic congestion in the area because all the vehicles ply the same road thereby making movement so hard for them and other commuters.
Mr. Jeremiah therefore praised the Federal Government for the second Niger Bridge construction which has given rise to decongestion of vehicles from the road, travellers from Aba, Owerri, Rivers and others can now divert to the new bridge and continue their journey to Lagos, Benin, Ore and other cities, and this is a very big advantage according to him.
Similarly, Mr. Basil Nwachukwu, a tricycle driver equally expressed his joy over the Federal Government intervention by constructing the second Niger Bridge to alleviate the untold suffering they have been subjected to as a result of too many vehicles plying the same road.
The driver said that the heavy trucks which have been spoiling their roads now ply the second Niger Bridge, now they are no longer experiencing traffic jam in the area, the road is now free and their movements are now hitch free and easy going.
In the same vein, Mr. Caleb Okoli, a business man from the area applauded the Federal Government for their effort towards Onitsha – Owerri road rehabilitation as this has gone a long way to help some residents who trek a long distance before they get to their respective business areas.
Mr. Okoli, therefore said a very big thank you to this present administration and at the same time appealed to the Federal Government to do more especially in the area of fuel pump price reduction because high cost of fuel has marred the economic state of Anambra and Nigeria at large.
