….…Appeals to Nigerians to Shun Protest and embrace Dialogue.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, has harped on the indispensability of peace and stability in stimulating and promoting economic prosperity and good governance, urging Nigerians to avoid actions that are capable of disrupting it.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, made the disclosure at the Press Briefing held in Abuja.

SGF underscored the necessity of peace and stability to catalyse economic development and urged Nigerians to embrace them as the economic prosperity of Nigeria is at the heart of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In his word:
Economic prosperity for the nation remains the ultimate goal of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because it is the engine that drives progress, lifts families from poverty, and builds strong, resilient societies. To achieve this goal, we must enjoy peace and stability because it is the cornerstone upon which we build trust, cooperation, and shared purpose. When peace reigns, policies yield results, businesses thrive, investments flourish, and creativity is unleashed.

According to him, despite the economic and security challenges the Tinubu-led administration met, the Government has made bold policies with the aim of building a prosperous Nigeria for now and posterity. Some of the interventions by the government to improve the welfare of its citizenry include the approval of N70,000.00 national minimum wage; the release of N5 billion to each state to cushion the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy among the poor, vulnerable and the elderly; N35 Billion Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND); payment of Wage Award of Thirty-five Thousand Naira for a period of six months to cushion the effect on workers; social safety net programmes, local government autonomy, infrastructural development, among others.

Sen. Akume added that Mr. President is a democrat and is not against peaceful protest, but is concerned about the dangers associated with protest which may end up being hijacked by hoodlums and other criminals leading to loss of lives and property. He therefore urged Nigerians to shun protest and give government time as the government is open to dialogue.

The Minister of Information & National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris also urged Nigerians to be wary of any protest that will undermine the gains made so far, saying that the sacrifice of today is for the prosperity of tomorrow.

He reeled out the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration which cut across all the sectors of the economy and also assured that the Government would not renege on its Renewed Hope Agenda for all Nigerians.
