FIC Report (Ondo State) – The election conduct in Ondo State was largely peaceful in the areas covered, which is a positive sign for the democratic process ¹. However, there were some issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) in certain polling units.

BVAS Malfunctions
Specifically, Ward 2, Unit 9, Ago-alaye Ward in Odigbo Local Government Area experienced BVAS malfunctions. This is concerning, as BVAS is crucial for ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.

INEC Officers and Voting Delays
Additionally, INEC officers in Oni-paraga Ward 4, Unit 5, and Ward 10 started behind schedule. Despite this, voters remained patient and were eventually accredited and able to cast their votes.

Vote Buying
Unfortunately, there was a high level of vote buying in the mentioned wards, with the slogan “(Dibo ko sebe)” being used. This undermines the democratic process and raises concerns about the legitimacy of the election.

Security Measures
In Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government, security was heightened in all polling units and highways, which helped maintain order and prevent potential disruptions.

Overall, while there were some challenges, the peaceful conduct of the election in Ondo State is a positive step. However, addressing BVAS malfunctions, voting delays, and vote buying will be essential for ensuring the integrity of future elections.
