ABUJA (Min of Budget and Planning Report) – The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget and National Planning Mr. Ernest Umakhihe, has presented the keys to a brand new IVM 2020 SUV manufactured by Innosson Motors, to the winner of the raffle draw conducted during the 18th Joint Planning Board (JPB)/ National Council on Development Planning(NCDP), Professor, Jibril Isa Diso, who is also visually impaired.
During the presentation ceremony which was held in the Ministry in Asaba, Delta State, from 9th – 11th October, 2019, Mr. Ernest Umakhihe, recalled that delegates to the JPB/NCDP had gone on a familiarization tour to the IVM plant in Nnewi, to see the level of commitment of the company in the manufacturing industry towards the Nation’s economic diversification.
While congratulating the winner, he said there were 700 participants at the meeting and for the purpose of transparency and fair play, a raffle draw was done to determine the winner, which had Professor Jibril Isa Diso, a lecturer in Bayero University Kano (BUK) emerge.
The Permanent Secretary appreciated the Chairman, Innoson Motors, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, for his commitment to the national economic growth and development of Nigeria and reiterated government’s determination to support and encourage local industries through the implementation of local content policy vis-à-vis the patronage of “Made in Nigeria” products.
The brand new car was magnanimously donated by the company as a show of appreciation for their visit to the plant.
Professor Diso thanked God for making him visually impaired and giving him the opportunity to turn his disability into ability.
He said, “At the risk of sounding modest, I must state that it has not been easy for a visually impaired person to become a Professor in the Nigerian environment with all its attendant encumbrances and other problems”.
He further conveyed his appreciation to Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, for his kind gesture and to PERL/DFID for affording him the opportunity to leave his comfort zone in Kano to partake in the National assignment.
Also in attendance, were representatives of the Delta State Government, FCT Social Development Secretariat and Vocational Rehabilitation Centre, European Union and DFID – PERL
