FIC Report (Edo State) – Motorists in Delta and Edo states have been urged to comply with fresh directives from the Nigeria Police Force as the full enforcement of regulations concerning tinted glass permits and certain vehicle restrictions begins nationwide on October 2, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Zone 5 Police Headquarters, Benin City, on Wednesday 1 October, 2025, the enforcement exercise is in line with existing laws and the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM. The operation will target all vehicles with tinted windows — whether factory-fitted or aftermarket — across the two states under the zone’s jurisdiction.
Motorists who have not yet obtained a Tinted Glass Permit have been advised to register via the official portal, www.possap.gov.ng, and proceed to their respective state command headquarters for physical verification. Vehicle owners who do not intend to obtain the permit are expected to remove the tints or replace the glasses with transparent ones, in accordance with the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act, 2004.
In addition to tinted glass enforcement, the Police will also clamp down on the unauthorized use of sirens, revolving lights, Police SPY number plates, unallocated official plates, and the operation of unregistered vehicles.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, AIG Salman-Dogo Garba, psc, has directed the Commissioners of Police in Delta and Edo states to ensure full compliance with the IGP’s orders. He emphasized that the exercise must be conducted with the highest level of professionalism, warning that any officers found guilty of harassment, extortion, or misconduct during the operation would face strict disciplinary measures — including holding their supervising officers accountable.
AIG Garba appealed to the public for cooperation, urging residents and motorists to report any instances of abuse or unprofessional behavior to the nearest police station, the Complaint Response Units (CRUs) of the state commands, or the offices of the Zonal and State Police Public Relations Officers.
The enforcement drive is part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police to enhance public safety, national security, and uphold rule of law on the nation’s roads.
