Police’s Swift Response Frees 16 Kidnap Victims in Coordinated Operations

FIC Report (Edo State) – In a remarkable display of prompt action and coordination, the Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued 16 kidnapping victims in a series of coordinated operations along major highways in the state.

According to a Statement released by CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the Police Public Relations Officer, the rescue efforts were triggered by distress calls received on August 23, 2025, around 5:30 pm and 6:00 pm. The calls reported that armed kidnappers had blocked sections of the Benin-Lagos and Benin-Akure roads, abducting innocent travelers.

Responding swiftly, the Police mobilized personnel from the Iguobazuwa and Ekiadolor Divisions, working alongside Tactical Teams, Vigilantes, and Local Hunters. The combined units launched intensive bush-search operations to track down the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims.

The Operation was personally led by the Edo State Police Commissioner, CP Monday Agbonika, along the Benin-Akure highway, demonstrating strong leadership and commitment. The Police also deployed advanced technical tools, including drones, to enhance operational precision.

As a result of these efforts, six victims were rescued along the Benin-Akure Road, one of whom sustained a gunshot injury during the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment. Additionally, three victims were freed along the Benin-Lagos Road, while another seven victims regained their freedom on August 25, 2025.

The Police commend the bravery and professionalism of their officers, as well as the vital support provided by Vigilantes and Local Hunters. CP Agbonika emphasized that collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community members is crucial in tackling violent crimes and urged the Public to continue trusting and supporting the police.

Reassuring the Community, CP Agbonika promised that the police would persist in their efforts to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice. He reaffirmed the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring safe highways and communities, deploying all necessary resources to eliminate violent crime in Edo State.
