
FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Special Adviser to the Governor of Sokoto state on security, Col. Ahamed Usman (Rtd), has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for the timely and visionary introduction of the safe Nigeria initiative, describing it as a strategic intervention in addressing the root causes of insecurity across the country.
Col.Usman,made the commendation in a statement released on Thursday, 5th February, 2026,in Sokoto. He stated that the initiative is designed to support displaced youths, vulnerable groups, out of school youths, internally displaced youths and young people living in high-risk and conflict-prone areas represents a proactive approach to crime prevention and National stability.
The programme is aimed to empower 11,000 youths and address the underlying social economic factors contributing to insecurity. It focuses on skills development, economic empowerment and social cohesion to make young people less susceptible to recruitment by criminal and extremist groups.
He commended the National counter-tourism centre for leading the implementation of the initiative in collaboration with the office of the senior special Assistant to president on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, stressing that the partnership reflects a coordinated and people-centred security strategy.
The Special Adviser, emphasised the significance of programme ‘s target of reaching 11,000 youths between the ages of 15 and 40,nothing that the demographic constitutes the most critical assignment in the fight against insecurity. He explained that investment in their development is investment in long-term peace and sustainable security in the nation.
He therefore, called on the state Government and Local Government councils to fully support the implementation of the safe Nigeria initiative by providing the necessary cooperation, community engagement and enabling environment required for its success.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Sokoto state Government under the leadership of Governor Ahamed Aliyu to initiatives that promote peace, youth empowerment and inclusive development, while urging stakeholders to view the safe Nigeria initiative as a collective responsibility in building a safer and more secured Nigeria.
