President Muhammadu Buhari has charged the nominees of Senior Executive Course no 42, (2020) ,to research carefully and proffer policy options that will enable Government fashion out appropriate responses to the challenges of rapid population growth and slow pace of human capital development.
President Muhammadu Buhari gave this charge in his address and Formal Inauguration of Senior Executive Course 42 (2020) at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Plateau State on Monday, 17th February, 2020.
The President who was represented by the Ag. Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, said the theme for 2020 executive course “Population growth and Human Capital Development in Nigeria;Challenges and Opportunities” is very apt, timely and critical because of the need to ensure that the primary purpose of governance; which is the provision of security and well-being of citizens is guaranteed through close monitoring and control of population growth for optimum human capital development.
The President affirmed that the Federal Government has high expectations that the participants would proffer the necessary solutions to the burning national issues given the critical role of human capital development, as a response mechanism to rapid population growth in our national economy.
The President therefore, implored participants to provide solutions to such issues as the existing gaps in the institutional, legal and policy frameworks for human capital development and how the frameworks can be strengthened to make them more responsive to the challenges of population growth.
To achieve these expectations, the President advised participants to remain committed, dedicated, disciplined and focused throughout the period of the course.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Director-General, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Professor Habu Galadima said the Senior Executive Course seeks to improve the overall performance of participants in their different professions, as well as prepare them to appreciate short and long term national planning processes.
Galadima affirmed that the Institute is the nation’s foremost policy ‘think tank’; developing a crop of top class technocrats of high intellectual capacity, who will conceptualize and anchor the implementation of innovative and dynamic policy initiatives and strategies critical to national development.
He promised that the theme approved for the course will be well researched and workable solutions would be proffered.
