Protesters Call For Sustained Military Operations, Permanent Security Presence In Imo Community

FIC Report (Imo State) – Concerned citizens under the aegis of Orsu & Friends & Rescue Alaigbo have called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to sustain and intensify ongoing military operations in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

The group made the appeal during a peaceful demonstration at the National Assembly Complex, held under the theme “Finish the Job,” drawing attention to the prolonged security challenges faced by communities in Orsu and neighbouring areas.

Addressing journalists, the Convener, Chukwuka Ofoegbu, said the protest was aimed at advocating sustained action against criminal elements that have disrupted normal life in the area.

He explained that affected communities have experienced serious security challenges, including restricted access to farmlands, disruption of economic activities, and threats to lives and property, all of which have significantly impacted livelihoods.

While acknowledging recent gains recorded by joint security operations involving the military and other agencies, the group emphasised the need for sustained efforts to prevent a resurgence of criminal activities.

The protesters also urged the Federal Government to consider establishing a permanent military presence in the area to consolidate ongoing security gains and ensure long-term stability.

Also speaking, Casmir Ezeifedi warned against premature withdrawal of security forces, stressing the need for sustained and coordinated operations, particularly across neighbouring states, to effectively address security concerns in the region.

The demonstrators reiterated their willingness to support government efforts aimed at restoring peace and security, noting that collaboration between security agencies and local communities remains essential for lasting stability.

The call underscores growing public demand for strengthened security measures to protect lives, restore normalcy, and support socio-economic activities in affected communities.
