The Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, (OSGF), Engr. Festus Y.N. Daudu (FIMC), has decried the non-existence of local industries in Nasarawa State despite the presence of natural resources, such as salt and solid minerals in large quantity.
Engr. Daudu, made this known during a courtesy call/ familiarization visit to the Emir of Nasarawa Eggon, HRH. Dr.Bala A. Angbazo, the Aren Eggon recently. He expressed displeasure that the salt industry still remained untapped with local producers still using old methods of processing in this modern day and time. Daudu however, welcomed the industrialization plan of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, which is aimed at ensuring lasting peace to Nasarawa State and is also in line, with President Buhari’s agenda of transforming the country to the next level of development.
The industrialization agenda of the government, he noted will guarantee employment for the teeming youths and consequently, reduce vices perpetrated by youths in the State. “I hope that His Excellency will focus on the industrialization of the salt industry, not just for local consumption but for national and subsequent exportation of the product in the long run”, he said.
He urged everyone to team up with the State Governor to move the State forward, while also calling for peace in order to attract foreign direct investments to the State.
Justice Ahmed Ubangari (Rtd), the Waziri Eggon, who represented the Emir who was unavoidably absent, promised the support and cooperation of the Emirate to move the State forward. He seized the opportunity to remind the Permanent Secretary that Nasarawa Eggon is the home of solid minerals and as such should not be forgotten in view of government’s plan to industrialize the State.
