FIC Report (Anambra State) – The Public Complaints Commission, says it targets to increase awareness rate about its existence and operations in Anambra State to forty percent by the end of this year.

Federal Commissioner in charge of the state, Emmanuel Muoka, who disclosed this while playing host to members of the Civil Society/Media Accountability and Anti Corruption Initiative (CMAAI), said the commission targets incremental rise in awareness level to 70% by next year and 90 to 95% by next two years.

He maintained that they are increasing their partnership with federal and state establishments as well as NGOs who are ready to work with them, stressing that there’s always an impartial mediator between the complaints and the defendants.

The Federal Commissioner said Nigerians should be encouraged by the fact that they can lay their complaints and get justice at no cost to them and further explained that any case that is not within purview is referred to appropriate government institutions for investigation.

Earlier, the State Director, Charles Ekwunife, said the commission which was established on 16th October, 1975 by Decree No. 31 and opened its Anambra office in 1993, after its creation, has successfully resolved thousands of cases brought before it.

Ekwunife commended the current Federal Commissioner for his achievements since he assumed duty in October of last year, highlighting his swinging into action and reaching out to critical stakeholders including the police, DSS, the Correctional service, immigration, and other federal and state agencies, as well as some radio jingles about the commission. These are part of his efforts to increase awareness about the commission.

The Coordinator of CMAAI, Ugochi Freeman, who had earlier told the Ombudsman that the visit was to familiarize with the commission and to explore possible areas of partnership between it and the coalition, further revealed that their mandate is to complement government efforts in fighting corruption especially in public places as an anti-corruption agency of government.

Other members of CMAAI stressed the need for the commission to increase its visibility especially on social media.
