
Minister of Regional Development, Engineer Abubakar Momoh met with staff of the North East Development Commission in Maiduguri Borno State on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, thanking them for their support which led to the achievements of major milestone.
The Minister encouraged the staff not to relent, assuring that their efforts will not be in vain.
According to him, his visit to the state and inspection of projects done by NEDC has put to rest the unnecessary distractions by some disgruntled persons who insinuate that the Commission was only good at providing relief materials instead of durable solutions. On the contrary, he said the Commission has done so well in discharging it’s mandate which the Deputy Governor of the state had earlier testified, even before he went to inspect project sites.
Engineer Momoh explained that the Ministry of Regional Development was only an intervention Ministry to close the gaps not covered by the designated authorities charged with providing critical services.
Citing the ongoing road projects, housing , education, health and support for security infrastructure in the region, the Minister said the NEDC and indeed the Ministry of Regional Development has done well.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mary Ada Ogbe also thanked the staff and used the occasion to appeal to them and indeed NEDC management to strive to encourage more human capital development.
According to her, it would amount to efforts in futility if educational infrastructure are put in place, but are not properly utilized, stressing that the Commission should do more to address the challenge.
Managing Director of NEDC, Dr. Muhammed Goni Alkali, thanked the Minister and his team for the 3 – Day visit to Borno, saying that such gesture was rare.
He further briefed the Minister on the progress being made by the Commission with assurances that their projects were doing well and hopeful of prompt delivery.
