Regional Development Minister on Working Visit to Borno

Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh has paid his first working visit to Borno State to obtain first hand information on activities of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) which is one of the Agencies under the supervision of his ministry.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Governor of Borno State Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur, the Minister stressed the determination of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration to intensify activities of NEDC towards accelerated rebuilding of the North East region after the devastation occasioned by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to him, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President, the Ministry of Niger Delta Development was expanded to ensure that every region in the country witnessed speedy development, noting that enormous resources have been committed by the federal government through the NEDC for a lot of projects going on in several locations including Borno State, which he has come to see for himself. “We are here to oversee and supervise the activities of the NEDC, to hear about their achievements and their needs,” he said.

He commended the Borno State government for the collaboration and support extended to the NEDC towards achieving it’s mandate.

Responding to the Minister, the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umar Zulum, represented by his Deputy, Hon. Dr. Umar Usman Kadafur, Acknowledged the achievement of NEDC in the state, saying that it’s interventions are all over the place. It is now a household name just like the defunct Education Trust Fund ( ETF) in the education sector which has projects everywhere, he said.

He particularly thanked the NEDC and indeed the federal government for the interventions in infrastructure, security and economic development.

Earlier, the Minister had paid homage to the Shehu of Borno, His Eminent, Alhaji (Dr.) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi CFR, saying he could not have sneaked into Maiduguri and return to Abuja without seeing the Monarch. He said the visit provided opportunity to see face to face, the much talked about Kanem Borno Dynasty which he only read in books while growing up.

He commended the Paramount ruler for being steadfast in striving for peace for the region.

In the same vein, the Shehu of Borno His Eminent (Dr) Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi CFR, also praised the federal government for the determination to restore lasting peace and economic recovery.

The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh was accompanied at the courtesy visit by the Permanent Secretary, Regional Development, Dr. Mary Ada Ogbe, MD. NEDC, Dr. Muhammed G. Alkali, officials of the Ministry of Regional Development and other Top Management of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).
