FIC Report (Lagos State) – In a boost to grassroots healthcare delivery, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has unveiled a newly constructed 30-bed Primary Health Centre (PHC) in the Ikoyi-Obalende area of Lagos State.

Commissioned on Wednesday, 9th July 2025, the ultra-modern facility—built and delivered by the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA)—was named in honour of the First Lady. She was represented at the event by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima.

“This centre stands as a symbol of hope and commitment to the well-being of Nigerians, especially women and children,” Mrs Tinubu said in her remarks. “It aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which puts access to quality and affordable healthcare at the heart of national development.”

She commended the Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Fuad Atanda-Lawal, for his leadership and people-focused vision. “This project reflects the kind of governance that truly responds to the needs of the people,” she added, urging residents to safeguard and take ownership of the facility.

Also speaking at the event, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, described the new PHC as a clear demonstration of the benefits of local government autonomy—part of broader reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration.

“Today’s commissioning is more than just the opening of a building—it’s about improving lives, ensuring access to care, and creating a healthier community,” she said.

She also praised the council’s strides in infrastructure, welfare, job creation, and grassroots empowerment, adding that the LCDA had become “a model of transformative local governance.”

In his address, Chairman Fuad Atanda-Lawal noted that the PHC is one of several impactful projects delivered since he assumed office in 2017. He credited recent national reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and local government financial autonomy, as enabling factors.

“This health centre will provide timely, essential services to residents,” he said. “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved, and confident that future leaders will build on this foundation, not start from scratch.”

The newly commissioned PHC is expected to significantly ease the pressure on existing public hospitals and improve access to maternal and child health services in the area.
