FIC Report (Kaduna State) – In a landmark development in Kaduna State, repentant bandits have embraced peace, publicly seeking forgiveness and pleading for reintegration into society.
This development is coming on the heels of Governor Uba Sani’s welcoming of the first group of these individuals in Birnin Gwari, where they surrendered their arms as part of a broader peace initiative.
Speaking on behalf of the repentant bandits a Fulani elder who introduced himself as Ardo, nominated by Janbross (a popular bandits’ kingpin) in the community , said it was time for all Fulani leaders across the federation to talk to their subjects and convince them to fully embrace the peace process.
Ardo urged bandits all over the North to borrow a leaf from Kaduna.
His words: “They (bandits in other parts of the North) should follow the Kaduna example and lay down arms.
“We are grateful for this peace pact and shall continue to pray for its sustainability. Thank you government,” he added in his message on behalf kingpin Janbross.
He conveyed their heartfelt plea for forgiveness.
Also He emphasized their genuine commitment to turning a new leaf and appealed to the government to ensure their children are allowed access to education, a vital step in breaking the cycle of violence.
“We want our children to go to school and live better lives than we did,” Janbross representative stated.
Recall that Governor Sani has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting genuine repentance, stressing that the state will prioritize their rehabilitation and reintegration.
The governor also revealed that a robust programme, developed in collaboration with the Federal Government, will ensure that these individuals are equipped to re-enter society productively.
The initiative will expectedly restore trust between affected communities and the repentant individuals, while addressing the root causes of insecurity.
Governor Sani assured that while the government welcomes those who seek peace, it will decisively deal with anyone continuing to perpetrate violence.
The move has been widely praised as a significant step towards restoring lasting peace and security in the region.
