
The Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, OFR, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to strengthening national service through targeted capacity-building initiatives.
Speaking during a training session organized for members of the Inland Revenue Monitoring Committee (IRMC) and relevant staff on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, at Chealsea Hotel Abuja, Dr. Shehu—represented by the Federal Commissioner for Kwara State, Hon. Ismail Muhammed Agaka—described the training as “A deliberate commitment to reinforce our collective sense of purpose and commitment to national service.”
He emphasized that the Commission’s support and approval of the training demonstrate its drive to enhance institutional effectiveness, promote transparency, and ensure accountability in revenue monitoring processes.
“This training is not only timely for members of this strategic committee but also crucial as they shoulder the critical responsibility of monitoring accruals and remittances from all revenue-generating agencies across the Federation.” He said.
He further said, “This exercise is designed o sharpen our knowledge, update us on emerging trends, improve our monitoring techniques, and align our practices with best standards in revenue tracking, reconciliation, and reporting.”
“In an era where fiscal prudence and revenue optimization have become national imperatives, the role we play is not only central but indispensable.” The Chairman stated.
Dr. Shehu, therefore, encouraged participants to actively engage in the training by asking questions, share insights, and maximize the opportunity to enhance their individual competence, while reinforcing the Commission’s collective mandate to operate with integrity, professionalism, and diligence.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the IRMC and Federal Commissioner representing Oyo State in the Commission, Hon. Abimbola Daniel Kolade noted that the objective of the training was to deepen the synergy between members of the committee and the staff of the Inland Revenue Department.
According to him, “We want to be able to go out there well equipped with the necessary understanding of the job and the tools required to make meaningful contributions to the system.”
He said, “This is important for us because issues related to revenue—especially tax revenue—have become a central focus for the nation as a whole.” He therefore encouraged all participants to engage actively.
In her vote of thanks, the Director of the Inland Revenue Department, Mrs. Udodirim Okongwu expressed her profound appreciation to the Chairman of the Commission, Dr. M.B. Shehu, OFR, for facilitating the training. She described the continuous support for capacity building and institutional strengthening as timely and critical to the effectiveness of their work.
