SciTech Minister Admonishes State Government on Technology Development

ABUJA – (Federal Ministry of Science & Technology Report) – The Minister of State for  Science and Technology, Mohammed Abdullahi has called on the State Ministries of Education, Science and Technology to leverage on the various Federal Government Programmes available to enhance technological development in the country. He made the call when he received the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Fatu Jimaita Sabo (Hajiya) in his office on Tuesday September 1, 2020.  

Mohammed Abdullahi urged the Commissioner and the people of Nasarawa State to take advantage of the Federal Government’s STI Policy Thrust 2030 to enhance their technological and innovation capacity. He also charged the State Governments to actively participate in the various science competitions that abound in the Ministry. Adding, Nasarawa State should take active participation in the forthcoming edition of the 774 programme and ensure good performance.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by female students in the Northern part of the country, encouraging Nasarawa State to sensitize the schools in the State on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The Deputy Minister further challenged the State to leverage on her proximity to the seat of government and participate in the annual Science Technology Expo to further showcase her inventions and innovations, so as to boost investments and wealth creation in the State. He mentioned that to further encourage the State to develop her STI skills, more Science Kits will be donated to the State in addition to the ones donated sometime ago.   

Earlier in her remarks, the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Fatu Jimaita Sabo called on the Federal Ministry of Science & Technology to support and assist the State in the provision of laboratory equipments in their Technical Colleges and Vocational Centres across the State. She further solicited the intervention of the Ministry in providing computers and the training of staff, saying this will go a long way in enabling the State to realize her objectives in Science and Technical Education.
