Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Hajiya Fatima Ahamed Aliyu Distribute N64m To Mark World Disability Day

FIC Report (Sokoto State) – As the world observes the 2025 International Day of persons with Disabilities (PWDs), Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Bola Ahamed Tinubu, disbursed the sum of N50 million in Sokoto state to empower persons living with disabilities.

The First Lady, who was represented by the wife of the Sokoto state Governor, Fatima Ahamed Aliyu, said that the gesture was implemented across the 36 states and the Federal Capital territory was aimed at promoting self-reliance among persons living with disabilities through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI). Under the programme 250 beneficiaries in each state received the sum of N200,000 grant with a nationwide total of 9,500 persons benefiting from the sum of N1.9 billion. She emphasised that the programme aligns with president Bola Ahamed Tinubu’s vision for inclusive growth and shared prosperity.

The wife of the Sokoto state Governor, Fatima Ahamed Aliyu, announced an additional N2million to seven associations of persons with disabilities. The Sokoto State Government has also increased the monthly stipends for registered persons with disabilities from the sum of N6,500 to N10,000 benefiting 6,676 PWDs.

Beneficiaries, Muhammad Sani and Fatima Abubakar, commended the First Lady for identifying with them and pledged responsible use of the funds.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries including the sultan of Sokoto, who was represented by the Ubandoman Arkilla, Alh Aliyu Hassan, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Disabilities, Umar Muhammad Sabon Birni and the wife of the Sokoto state Deputy Governor, Aisha Muhammad Idris Gobir among others.
