FIC Report (Sokoto State) – The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. A.L Ala, has expressed concern over the high rate of staff absenteeism in secondary schools across the State.

The Commissioner stated this during an inspection visit to several schools across the State. He complained that some school principals and teachers are frequently absent from class rooms during lesson periods.

Prof. Ala, stated that, the trend is alarming as it can significantly impact negatively on the quality of education and students performance. Absenteeism is not the only challenge facing secondary school education in Sokoto State, other issues such as insecurity, lack of qualified teachers and inadequate educational resources have also contributed to the state educational woes.
