The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has called on sports lovers, stakeholders and the citizenry to contribute towards the promotion and upgrading of sports in the country for economic development.
The Minister made the call when the members of the Unity Schools Old Students Association paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Abuja recently.
Sen. Enoh emphasized that sports is not only for recreation but also for economic growth and development of a nation and should be invested into.
He Stressed that sports development has a lot of health benefits and advantages thus the need to inculcate sports as a daily routine as it helps to keep the body physically and mentally fit for the day’s job.
“there is a lot you gain in creating awareness on what we all benefit or lose by not being physically fit people,” he said .
The Minister congratulated members of the Unity Schools Students Association for their forthcoming carnival charging them not to relent after the carnival but to think of what they can do to support the Sports sector.
“The power of Sports is so strong, in doing this carnival what should register in your minds is what role you can play to grow this sector to work for our country”.
While commending them for their concern for the unity of the country Owan- Enoh urged them to identify their members who are into sports as a career to encourage and boost their morale.
Speaking earlier, The Secretary of the group, Anthony Chidi Anene said the purpose of their visit was to inform the Minister of the upcoming sports carnival in Abuja organized by the Association and to assure him of it’s Maximum support over his vision for the sports sector.
Unity Schools he said cuts across the country and the unity of the country is paramount to them.
