
The Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, meets with the Procurement Stakeholders from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on the effective implementation of procurement policies for good governance and a sustainable procurement sector.
Dr. Adedokun, while welcoming the Procurement stakeholders of Directorate Cadre from MDAs at the state house Auditorium, Presidential Villa Abuja, stated that, the purpose of the interactive session between BPP and MDAs is to create more awareness of the current reforms and policies in the procurement sector in line with the implementation of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for national development and to facilitate transparent and efficient budget execution.
The DG emphasized the functions of public procurement which is the use of public funds by public entities for the delivery of public goods, works and services. Adding that public procurement is a global system adopted by the developed and developing nations to derive value for money and improve efficiency.
Dr. Adebowale while making a presentation on public procurement reform, outlined some of the objectives and functions of Public procurement. Assuring that, the Bureau is ready to provide necessary support which includes capacity building and timely response to some challenges encountered at the course of duties.
The representative of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and Permanent Secretary, Common Service Office, Dr. Kalba Danjuma Usman, in his goodwill remarks, commended the director-General, BPP and the management team of the Bureau for the relentless efforts in strengthening the nation’s procurement framework, addressing the challenges encountered on the Nigerian Open Contracting Portal (NOCOPO) Platform and the early commencement of procurement activities. He urged all officers to take full advantage of the innovations in current procurement reforms to enhance service delivery in their various MDAs.
The Chairman, Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), Dr. Abdulahi Usman Bello, stressed that, Code of Conduct Bureau is one of the pioneer Anti-Graft Agencies who objective is to prevent, investigate and prosecute corruption in the civil service, as well analyze and scrutinize assets declaration. He encourages the officers to keep to the good values of the Nigerian Civil service for the benefits of the citizens and progressive country.
The DG BPP, urged the procurement officers to adhere to the procurement principles, as he reiterated that every procurement officer must be held accountable for wrongful procurement practice.
As his take home message, he said “Procurement is an Enabler, a Strategic tool, a Catalyst and an Enforcer that will ultimately improve our national socio-economic and development programmes, reduce poverty, attract foreign investment, reduce youth restiveness, promote equality and fairness across all strata of our society, reduce insecurity and give hope to our children now and the future generation.
