The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa on Tuesday 12th November 2024, inaugurated an Inter-Ministerial/Inter Agency Committee on Disability Inclusion which stands as a demonstration of commitment of implementing Nigerian’s National disability act, in line with the renewed hope agenda of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Committee’s Mandate is to ensure compliancy in the implementation of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (prohibition) Act 2018, across all ministries, departments and Agencies (MDA’s) with strict measures on accessibility and inclusion standards.
The inauguration, took place at the summit held at the State House Auditorium Aso Villa, Abuja. Supported by a grant from the MacArthur foundation.
However, the summit brought together Government officials, advocates and leaders from various sectors, synergize to accelerate the act’s enforcement and ensure full compliance and sanctions for defaulting MDA’s.
Dr Comfort Adeosun representing the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, emphasized on the need for all MDA’s and stakeholders to move faster as an organization, particularly with recruitment in the Civil Service to ensure the 5% quota recommended by the Act for Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) is strictly adhered to in order to ensure inclusivity.
Furthermore, the SSAP extended his heartfelt gratitude to the MacArthur foundation for their support in making the summit possible.
According to him, their grant has empowered his office to convene this gathering of leaders and advocates, while encouraging other development partners to emulate their commitment to this cause.
