The Minister of State for Science and Technology, Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi has called on professionals and experts in the building and construction industry, to use the opportunities offered by the Presidential Executive Order 5 and support its full implementation.
Barrister Abdullahi said this at the 10th International Conference Series of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBBRI) on Tuesday in Abuja.
He further implored professionals especially in the construction industry, to study the contents of the Executive Order 5, as it will aid the desired change in creating an innovative driven economy as envisioned by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Abdullahi further encouraged stakeholders to continue in their support for NBRRI in their strive to developing appropriate technologies that would address housing/ infrastructural challenges in the country.
In his words, “This conference is apt and envisaged to expose stakeholders to the latest trends in the building sector that could reduce the dangers associated with erosion, building collapse and persistent flooding as experienced in recent times. “
The Minister also commended the management team of the Institute for their zeal and determination, which they displayed in the actualisation of the Institute’s mandates, further adding that their various research outputs, have imparted favourably towards sustainable housing in the country.
He further called on all participants to see the platform as a good means of learning and contributing intellectually to the betterment of Nigeria.
Earlier, the chairman of the NBRRI governing board, Hon. Williams Wadni, said that Nigerian construction industry has been identified as one of the fastest growing in the world and further harped on the need for repositioning the sector to compete and carry out global best practices.
In a goodwill message, the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Research Institutes, Hon. Olaide Akinremi said that the challenge of infrastructure is being addressed by the government.
He hailed the efforts of the Institute in addressing the infrastructural deficit in the country, further pledging that his committee will give full support to infrastructure development in the country.
